The All-in-One UV Pump utilizes a UV-C lamp. But what is it and how does it work? UV is the abbreviation for ultra-violet, and UV-C stands for the wavelength that is used: 254 nanometres (nm). The reason UV-C is used is that this has been shown to be the most effective wavelength for eliminating micro-organisms such as fungi and bacteria. UV-C radiation damages the DNA of the micro-organisms, causing them to become inactive. The UV-C lamp is surrounded by a glass tube made of quartz glass. This is because quartz glass allows UV waves to pass through.
